I Can’t Connect the Controller to My Wi-Fi

  1. Download the latest version of the Smarter Grill app from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (Apple).
  2. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone or tablet.
  3. Allow all permissions during app installation.
  4. Create an account with a username and password (minimum 8 characters).
  5. Connect to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (5 GHz is not supported).
  6. Make sure the BBQ is just connected to power – the controller is only discoverable for 2 minutes for connection. In doubt? Unplug it and plug it back in.
  7. Check if your router’s Wi-Fi password is a maximum of 12 characters long.
  8. Keep your phone or tablet within 30 cm of the controller. Wait until “Connect” turns red at the bottom of the display, then press “Connect”.

How Do I Properly Turn off the Pellet BBQ?

  • Always use the on/off button on the controller.
  • Never just pull the plug! This prevents damage and allows the BBQ to cool down properly via the shutdown function.
  • Leave the lid open until the fan stops automatically.

How Do I Properly Start the Pellet BBQ?

The Eastwood and Goliath models are very well insulated due to their double wall. As a result, the temperature during startup can rise higher than you set.

Here’s how to Do it Right:

  • First, set a lower temperature than your target temperature.
    For example: if you want to reach 150°C? First set 120°C. When the BBQ is around that temperature, then increase to 150°C.
    Do you want to reach 300°C? Start with 200°C, then to 250°C, and then to 300°C.

Startup Process:

  1. The glow plug remains on for the first 6 minutes.
  2. The BBQ feeds enough pellets to create a stable fire.
  3. After that, it automatically switches to the temperature you set.

Smoke is Coming from the Hopper. What should I Do?

Don’t panic! There is no fire. A few pellets are likely smoldering at the end of the feed tube, causing smoke to rise towards the hopper.

This Can be Caused by:

  • A dirty burn pot.
  • The BBQ was turned off without leaving the lid open, especially after high-temperature use.

What You Can Do:

  1. Turn on the BBQ to 150°C.
  2. Leave the lid open.
  3. The BBQ feeds pellets and transports the smoldering remains to the burn pot.
  4. Wait about 10 minutes (the longer the smoke was present, the longer this will take).
  5. Once the smoke is gone:
    • Turn off the BBQ (keep the lid open), or
    • Set the desired temperature again and close the lid.

What is Eco Mode? (Only Available on the Wi-Fi Controller)

Eco Mode is a unique, quiet, and economical mode that automatically activates when you set the temperature below 110°C (from 6 minutes after switching on).

What Does Eco Mode Do?

  • The fan runs quieter.
  • The pellet feed is reduced.
  • You’ll barely hear any noise, unlike other brands where the fan constantly changes speed.
  • You get a constant, gentle smoke – ideal for low & slow cooking.

Why is it Important to Clean the Burn Pot?

Many startup problems occur because the burn pot is full of ash. Then the pellets can no longer properly reach the glow plug.

What Happens then?

  1. The glow plug heats up, but the pellets don’t ignite.
  2. More and more pellets accumulate.
  3. Eventually, they start to smolder, causing a lot of smoke.
  4. Due to the built-up smoke gases, a flashback can suddenly occur, causing the lid to pop open.

What should You Do?

Always check if the burn pot is empty before lighting.
✅ Does startup take longer than usual and is there a lot of smoke?
➡️ Open the lid and turn off the BBQ.
✅ Let everything cool down, clean the burn pot, and then try again.
