5 years of Grill Bill: Cooking together, making memories together

What started five years ago as a dream has grown into something much bigger than we ever dared hope. Grill Bill is today more than a BBQ brand. It's a community, a family of like-minded people who share a passion for cooking outdoors over fire. Our mission? Bringing people together and making sure every barbecue is not just a culinary experience, but also a moment you share with the people who matter to you.

The fire that connects us doesn't just warm the BBQ, but also the hearts of everyone who comes together to enjoy good food and good company. In this blog we look back together with you on our journey of the past five years, and how we turned a small hobby into a brand that's all about creating memories.

From a Hobby to a Mission

Grill Bill started in 2019, but our passion for barbecuing goes back much further. Back in 2010 we lit the fire for the first time as “Bobby's hobby”. It was our way to relax, enjoy being outdoors and above all spend time with friends and family. After losing our mother in 2019, we decided to invest the little money she left us into a bigger dream: Grill Bill. With this we wanted to remember her by creating a place where people come together, laugh, cook and share beautiful moments.

Our mission is simple: to offer you the best BBQ experience, so you can focus on what really matters — being together. For us it's not just about a good piece of meat on the grill, but about the fire that connects people. Every spark is a chance to make new memories.

2020: The First Steps and the First Award

We soon received recognition for the quality and design of our products. In 2020 we won our first award with our Pro Large I for best kamado under €1000. For us this wasn't just any prize. It felt like confirmation that we were on the right track. This recognition gave us the strength and motivation to keep going, to further develop our products and reach even more people.

But it wasn't just the award that made that year special. It was the way you — as a customer, as an enthusiast — supported us. By giving feedback, by sharing your experiences and simply by telling us your stories, you made us part of your barbecue adventures. And that's exactly what we wanted: to be a brand that revolves around you, around the moments you experience with the people dear to you.

2021: The Grill Bill Pro 2 and a Major Milestone

2021 was a year when everything came together. We introduced the second generation of our kamado barbecue: the Grill Bill Pro 2. With this model we wanted to offer an even better cooking experience through improved materials and a more efficient design. This kamado was not only more robust and functional, but also designed to satisfy the most demanding BBQ chefs. The hard work paid off, because with the Pro 2 XL we immediately won the award for best kamado over €1000. This was an important milestone that confirmed we were on the right track and that our products weren't just loved by hobbyists, but also valued by connoisseurs.

2021 also marked the start of our collaboration with the first Grill Bill ambassadors. These enthusiastic BBQ lovers still create inspiring content for us and help strengthen our community. With their passion and creativity they show what's possible with a Grill Bill, and they form an important part of the Grill Bill family.

On top of that, 2021 also brought new challenges. Success meant our old location quickly became too small. Moving to a bigger building felt like a new beginning, a chance to introduce even more people to what makes Grill Bill so special. This was also the moment we transformed from a sole proprietorship into a limited company. With this we laid the foundation for further growth, but always with the same philosophy: at Grill Bill it's about more than just selling products. It's about a lifestyle, a passion we love to share with you.

2022: Crossing Borders, The Roast Club, Fan Clan and Grill Bill Academy

In 2022 our products crossed the border for the first time. Our kamados found their way to BBQ fanatics in Germany, Belgium, France, Hungary, Spain, Norway, Sweden and even Curaçao. The idea that people all over the world, from different cultures and backgrounds, come together around our kamados and enjoy the same passion, fills us with pride.

But that wasn't all. In that same year our kamados also found their way into the kitchen of The Roast Club, the best restaurant in Brabant. For us this was a huge honour, because they're known for their love of artisan cooking techniques and high-quality ingredients. The Roast Club has since earned its place in the top 10% of the best restaurants in the world on Tripadvisor. The fact that they chose our kamados as part of their kitchen shows that our products aren't just suited to the hobby cook, but also to professional kitchens that excel in quality and flavour.

2022 was also the year we decided to create a place where our community could gather online. This is how the Grill Bill Fan Clan came about on Facebook, a place where both customers and non-customers can share their passion for barbecuing. Here tips, recipes and experiences are exchanged, and it's wonderful to see how people inspire and motivate each other. The Fan Clan has since grown into a lively place where everyone who loves BBQ is welcome.

On top of that, we started the first Grill Bill workshops and set up the Grill Bill Academy, our own e-learning platform. Here beginners and advanced users alike can learn everything about barbecuing with a kamado, from the basic principles to advanced techniques. This initiative partly came about due to the challenges of COVID-19 and the lockdowns, which left many people stuck at home. With the Academy we wanted to make sure everyone, despite the restrictions, could keep enjoying outdoor cooking while learning new skills at the same time.

2023: New Innovations and a Home for Outdoor Cooking in Hungary

2023 was once again a year full of exciting developments. We upgraded our popular Pro 2 and introduced some innovations to make your cooking experience even better. We came out with a new cast iron daisy wheel, the Top Controller for better temperature control, and an improved ash tray that makes cleaning easier. These improvements are the result of listening to our community and continuing to innovate, so you can get the most out of your Grill Bill.

On top of that, we expanded our company to Hungary, where we bought two holiday homes, specially set up for BBQ lovers like you. These homes aren't ordinary holiday accommodation. They're equipped with our own kamados, a plancha and a fireplace — everything you need to enjoy a weekend full of delicious food and good conversation. Here it's all about being together, sharing your passion and experiencing the Grill Bill experience in a unique way.

Memories that Last

In five years we've grown into a trusted brand among BBQ lovers. We're proud of the quality, service and design of our products. But what we're most proud of is the community we've built together with you. The stories you share with us, the moments you experience with your kamado, the tips we exchange and the friendships that form — that's what Grill Bill is all about.

The Future: Where We're Going

We're not standing still. In the coming years we want to further expand our range with new BBQ models, more accessories and even complete outdoor kitchens. We also keep looking for ways to make outdoor cooking more accessible and exciting.
