Heat Deflector - Grill Bill 16 inch
- Shields the food from the direct flame
- Ceramic distributes the heat evenly
- Made for the Grill Bill 16 inch Medium
Without a shield, the fire radiates straight onto the bottom of your food: fine for a steak, disastrous for a four-hour roast. This heat deflector, also called a plate setter, sits between the coals and your food and turns your 16 inch kamado into an oven. The warm air circulates around it instead of burning onto it.
What you can do with it
With the shield in place you slow-cook at low temperature, as with pulled pork and spare ribs, or you smoke without the underside burning. Bread, cake and casseroles also work on the kamado this way. Combine it with a pizza stone above it, with some space in between, for a crispy base.

Use and care
Light the kamado, let the fire burn through properly and only then place the shield in position. Close the lid and let everything come up to temperature before adding food: ceramic needs time to heat through completely. Never place a cold shield onto a glowing fire and do not pour cold liquid onto it while it is hot.
