The HORL walnut wood knife sharpener turns sharpening into a one-minute job. You place the knife against the magnetic holder, choose 15 or 20 degrees, and roll the sharpener back and forth over your worktop. Because the holder sets the angle and not your wrist, the blade gets the same edge from heel to tip. That's exactly the point where sharpening by hand on a stone usually goes wrong.

Why a HORL walnut wood knife sharpener suits your worktop

Walnut is dark, dense-grained and develops a lovely patina over time. This version therefore looks right at home next to a wooden chopping board or a knife block, where a lot of sharpening tools tend to disappear into a drawer instead. In practical terms, the wood type makes no difference: the technique, the angles and the discs are the same as in the other versions.

From blunt to sharp in three steps

Clamp the knife in the magnetic holder with the edge facing the sharpener. Roll ten to fifteen times over the diamond side and spread those rolls over the entire blade, including the tip. Then turn the sharpener over and repeat with light pressure on the ceramic side: this removes the raised burr and polishes the edge. Rinse, dry, and test on a sheet of paper.

Bill's tipOnly use the coarse side if the knife is really blunt. Regular short touch-ups on ceramic keep your knives sharp for years and save steel.

Care

Not in the dishwasher and not under the tap: wiping it dry is enough, plus the occasional bit of maintenance oil on the wood. Not sure which wood to pick, the HORL knife sharpeners page shows all versions side by side. Want an even finer finish, take a look at the standalone 6000 ultra-fine whetstone. And if you're after a knife that deserves this kind of sharpening, you'll find one among our knives.
